This listing is for 7 vacuum vials with valve caps. Make a hole in thin tubing, insert tubing snugly through the valve cap such that hole lines up with the valve opening within the cap. There is one green and one red button. Depending which button is pushed in determines whether the sample is sealed or exposed to whatever vacuum you have in the tubing. You might want to put water in the vial and then apply vacuum or pressure. If water is perturbed, then the hole in the tubing is properly aligned with the valve opening.
When filled to the top, these vials hold 1.5 mls. I assume the proper working volume is 1 ml. The 40 ml version of these vials are used in the Pico Tag hydrolysis/derivatization station. These vials would also be compatible with the Pico Tag station, but are not tall enough to fit in properly unless they are elevated in some way. I know that a single 40 ml vial without a cap costs ~$50 from Eldex, the vial+cap assembly is probably quite a bit more. A set of 7 at this price is a good value.
