Please note that nothing can replace the diagnostic skills of a seasoned radio technician. Every unit can have it's own unique failure. I only offer some possible repair solutions I have seen with a lot of units. Yours may be something different!
If your Galaxy or similar SSB base station drifts four or five hundred cycles from cold to warm, a lot of times this reduces that problem and many times nearly eliminates it.
If your radio is the one that intermittently suddenly looses its frequency (the counter drifts all over the place from 24 to 28 mhz or so) than this is probably NOT the problem. Your 10.240 crystal probably has a cold solder joint or has become aged and "inactive". If you are an experienced tech on these radios, than you know what I am talking about.
