ColnArt have stocked the full range of Moleskine notebooks since their reintroduction in 1997. We use their notebooks and diaries in the office and we love their simple style.
Originally designed and produced by a small bookbinder in Paris the little notebooks became really popular amongst local artists and writers. It seems that Hemingway always used them and Bruce Chatwin was a huge fan. The original producer eventually went out of business and the books were made in Tours for a time. Then production became sporadic and then stopped completely. After more than a century, in the mid 1980s the little black notebooks were no longer available. Bruce Chatwin bought the last of the stock available in Paris and it seemed that the story was over.
In 1997 a Milanese publisher began to make the books again and that is when we found them. Named Moleskine after Bruce Chatwin s nickname for the books they began with just the simple lined notebook and every year they extended the range and now there is a huge variety of designs colours and sizes.
The notebooks are bound in cardboard with the famous moleskine fake leather cover. Each notebook has unique rounded corners, an elastic closure and an expandable inner pocket. Each journal has a ribbon placeholder and a removable card detailing the history of the Moleskine product.
