Build a Cross-Slide Lathe Turret
An Original 1946 Four-Page How-to Article that was removed from a vintage magazine. Dimensions given on the drawings are for a turret that fits an lathe of 9-10 inch or similar swing.
Excerpt: "One of the handiest attachments that can be fitted to a metal-working lathe is a cross-slide turret mounted in place of the regular toolpost. By indexing the turret from one position to another, various kinds of tools can be brought quickly into use. A turret is a necessity in production work where numerous identical cuts are to be made. Even in repair or other "one-shot" operations, or just plain tinkering, a turret is work its keep, for it is more rigid than the conventional toolpost and, in addition, it carries more cutting bits."
"This article describes a four-position turret designed and built by W. A. Coney for use on a 9 inch South Bend lathe. It is of reasonably simple construction, and it can be built entirely with the aid of a small lathe, although a milling machine is useful for forming the rocker seats."
