15) "Worked really well on a severely dehydrated pediatric patient we had in the ED a few weeks ago. You turn out the lights, and turn this thing on and go
up and down the arms/legs/where ever. The tissue in the arm/leg/whatever "glows" and the veins stay dark. ~Margie RN In South Central PA...on the Mason Dixon Line
I've been an ER and NICU RN for over 25 years and I've had my share of difficult IV starts.
You know the kind of patients that are difficult sticks at best.... infants, older patients with little or no veins, obese patients, diabetics, dialysis patients, and those that just don't have a visible or palpable vein anywhere.
In the Neonatal ICU, new patients get blood drawn from a radial arterial stick initially and the Transilluminator takes the guesswork out of finding that artery; I hyperextend the patient's wrist over the light and easily see where I want to stick. No more blind sticks or unnecessarily hurting the preemies, just a simple one stick blood draw.
I am also the one other RNs come to after they have blown what few veins were there and they expect me to get IV access for them.
Well, part of my secret is this Transilluminator; the only one that uses red wave length light and works like a miracle.
Don't be fooled by the cheap white light LED "flashlights" that are being sold. This one works magic and is quality made.
The Transilluminators from the big companies start at $90 for the Neonate model (WEE Light) and then jump to over $175.00 for the adult models.
This one works as well, if not better than theirs, and will enhance your IV start skills like you would not believe for a fraction of the price.
This is the best and lowest cost Transilluminator I've ever used or seen advertised any where.
It's well worth a few dollars to start getting those hard IV sticks on the first try.
It is GREAT for use by anyone in the ER, nursery, NICU, ICU, CCU, Outpatient Surgery, or IV Team..... anywhere IV access must be achieved with minimal effort on difficult patients.
Turn the lights off, put this Red LED light against the skin and those hidden veins seem to jump out at you. It's like having X-Ray vision.
See the picture below; I took it with my digital camera while using the Transilluminator; see how the usually hidden/nonpalpable vein shows up. It's the dark, horizontal line across the upper 1/3 of the picture, just waiting for you to slide an IV catheter into it.
You would not believe the number of IV sticks I have been successful with in a semi dark room with just this RED LED Transilluminator to guide me.
You won't have to waste time and effort hunting for a vein and then hoping that you can hit it; you can actually see them under the skin as you slide the IV catheter into it.
It doesn't get HOT like the otoscope does so it won't burn your patient and works well on neonates, infants, children, and adult patients.
This product uses high-quality super high intensity RED LEDs.
Finely machined aluminum body built to last w/wrist strap
Max. brightness on just 3 "AAA" batteries that last forever; I change my batteries once a year.
LED bulbs burn approx. 80,000 hrs.
Only 4" long and 1" wide, easily carried in a pocket.
So stop missing those difficult IV sticks and improve your skills the easy way.
Order yours today and start making those hard IV sticks and your job easier.
P.S. They make GREAT gifts for your fellow staff members also...every time they use it, they will be thanking you.
