Description of Robinair 15500 VacuMaster Series Vacuum Pump:
Robinair 15500 VacuMaster Series A/C Vacuum Pump features: Free Air Displacement: 5 CFM; Two Stage Design second stage starts pumping at a lower pressure to pull a deeper ultimate vacuum; Lower maintenance VacuMaster pumps use less oil, 7.4 oz.; that will reflect in your maintenance costs during the life of the pump, etc.
Characteristics of Robinair 15500 VacuMaster Series Vacuum Pump:
HVAC High Performance Vacuum Pump - Engineered specifically for air conditioning and refrigeration service, and built with Robinair's proven offset rotary vane
High Vacuum Rating - The two-stage, offset rotary vane design provides powerful, quiet high vacuum capability and assures moisture removal, while the high pumping capacity reduces evacuation time.
Lifetime Filtration - The intake filter prevents foreign matter from entering the pumping chamber, and an internal exhaust filter separates oil vapor from the exhaust flow.
Direct Exhaust - The exhaust is expelled through the handle to direct it away from the service technician.
Sure-Grip Handle - The one-piece, molded handle makes it easy to carry the pump to and from job sites, and the handle stays cool to the touch during operation.
Compact Design - Pump measures just 151/2" long, while aluminum housing and offset rotary vanes keep the pump weight low, making it easy to carry.
Unbeatable price - High performance and quality for an incredible value.

Important Issues concerning deep vacuum pumps and HVAC & Refrigeration Service:
Moisture: Moisture within sealed refrigeration systems cause CFC, HCFC & HFC refrigerants to break down, forming hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids. These acids will attack Important Issues Concerning Deep Vacuum Pumps and HVAC & Refrigeration Service:
Moisture: Moisture within sealed refrigeration systems cause CFC, HCFC & HFC refrigerants to break down, forming hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids. These acids will attack the hermetic motor winding insulation and ultimately result in compressor failure. Several variations of acid test kits are available to determine the presence of acid. Pulling a deep vacuum (500 microns or less) is the only method which assures you've "boiled" off and removed all moisture from a sealed system. And a system which will hold a deep vacuum, is also leak-free.
Oil: It's the specially formulated, low vapor pressure vacuum pump oil that absorbs the moisture (water vapor) during the evacuation process, and this oil has a finite moisture capacity. This is why ALL vacuum pump manufacturers' instructions will state that it's important to change your pumps oil AFTER EVERY USE. You should be able to take your used vacuum pump oil to a local PepBoys, Jiffy Lube, etc. for recycling. Furthermore, the hygroscopic nature of polyolester (POE) refrigeration oils contained in systems utilizing HFC refrigerants (R410A - aka Carrier's PuronTM), R404A, R134A, may require multiple vacuum pump oil changes to effectively dehydrate, especially if the system has been open to atmosphere for more than a brief moment.
