This set comprises sufficient components to make four models, namely, benzene, ethane, ethene, and ethyne. Demonstrating sigma and pi bonding orbitals, and exposes concepts of hybridization and delocalization.
The pink and purple pear-shaped lobes and concave links represent the +ve and -ve signs of the wave functions of the lobes of atomic and molecular orbital;
The grey pieces represent hybridized sigma bonds;
This set includes the following:
- 12 carbon and 18 hydrogen atoms
- 9 carbon-carbon (oval-shaped) sigma bonds
- 18 carbon-hydrogen (pear-shaped) sigma bonds
- 9 pi-bonds (21 pink and 21 purple pieces, concave lobe-shaped)
