All parts are constructed of metal including all metal drive gears (except one in nylon)to insure lifetime use. There is no more sewing machine built tough like this one with all metal cast iron. today's machines are made of plastics and inside parts are in aluminium and today's bobin cases are made of plastic. they cannot handle nylon #69 thread.
