These cases are specially made to be launched from a standard 3ins mortar tube. In fact the exact diameter of the shell is 68mm this allows for the quick match fuse to run down the side and a paper wrapper to protect the shell when it is made.
Each shell case comes in 3 parts that can be glued together when filled. These are the lift cup for the lifting powder, the cylinder main body of the shell with time fuse hole, The top easy fill cap that has a loop for the fuse and to attach a lowering string to place the shell in the mortar
