In 1885 Taiso Yoshitoshi (1839 1892), the most prolific and influential woodblock print artist of Meiji-era Japan, began his masterpiece, the hundred-print series Tsuki hyakushi (One Hundred Aspects of the Moon), which presents a panorama of Japanese history, legend, and culture. Each design in the popular series was awaited by an eager public editions often sold out on the day of publication. This calendar presents twelve images from the series.
