Foam city-catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide

This demonstration is also known as Elephant or Vampire Toothpaste, just with different colors added. This experiment is an all time favorite classroom demonstration. We only sell this kit to schools and companies, it is not meant for children or home use because of the possible hazards with improper use. A large quantity of foam is produced when detergent and potassium iodide are added to hydrogen peroxide. This is a decomposition reaction: the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by potassium iodide. The products are water (steam) and oxygen gas. The gas forms a foam with the liquid detergent. If this reaction is done in a tall graduated cylinder, the foamy product shoots out in a tall cylindrical shape that looks like giant toothpaste.Contents:hydrogen peroxide, 30%, three 30 ml bottlesliquid detergent, 30 mlpotassium iodide, 10 g
