Self Blue d'Uccle Bantams are true Bantams, having no standard size counterpart. They are a gentle bantam with soft feathers of powder blue.
Their tail, leg, and toe plumage is a soft powder blue. The presence of vulture hocks, heavy leg feathering, and a wide-set tail make these little guys uniquely beautiful. We have found that their coloring will get a softer blue-gray with age.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This breed will bleach out in the sunlight, creating a light yellowish tint to the most exposed feathers. This is very evident in the males as can be seen in our photos. If you plan to show this breed, they must be raised out of direct sunlight to prevent sun bleaching. This bleaching effect often results in the breed being mistakenly called Lemon Blue-Our birds are NOT Lemon Blue they are Self Blue. We purposely included photos of birds raised out of doors to demonstrate the sun bleaching effect as most birds will be raised in direct sunlight. To prevent the sun bleaching, raise this breed inside a barn, out of direct sun exposure.
