On offer are several lots, each of 8 new (old stock) Voltage Controlled Oscillators by Panasonic. When I was originally playing with these I amassed a fair bit of info, mapped out the schematic etc ... and it's all disappeared in the move to the UK. The information here is based on my best recollection but there is a basic datasheet available.
The construction is of a small PCB with gold plated connections, topped with a shield cover.
Each is a 2 transistor (NPN bipolar) circuit, the inductor being a laser trimmed strip on the PCB, the control being via a varicap.
These have a span of around 150MHz, from 1720MHz to 1870MHz. I tested using a 3v power supply. Connections and dimensions are as follows:
The parts bag is labelled "ENF VH1 H3S 64" with a datecode of "08"
Although I've misplaced the written notes, I did find the following photos of my test jigs, one for the osc the other for a transistor extracted from inside.
It's always nice to have oscillators to play with. These could easily be used in a marker generator for viewing on a SA or testing a frequency meter, LO for experimental FM transmitter/receiver, 70cm..23cm transverter, etc. If you are handy with a soldering iron you could parallel a capacitor with the varactor and reduce the minimum frequency.
Alternatively, mix the output from two of them with one of the EMRS-11F mixers I'm also listing (and low-pass filter the output) and you'll have a low-cost sweepable generator covering ~ 0 - 150MHz.
One here for the experimenter at a very reasonable price ...
Not sure of another source. RFCandy has similar parts at 4 Euro each .. (~ 30 for 8). An opportunity here to economically enhance your parts drawer ... Thanks for your interest!
