SPEX 1681 Spectrometer & CD2B Controller
For sale- a SPEX 1681 .22m Spectrometer with a SPEX CD2B Compudrive Controller. Actually the serial number (3424) label shows it to be a catalog number 1681B if that makes a difference. I know from past experience that the larger SPEX monochromators were actually made by Jobin Yvon, but I don t know if one this small would have been similarly sourced or not.
Both the spectrometer and the contoller power up, and after a considerable amount of trial and error I got it to run a scan. Whether it ran the scan correctly or not I cannot say. I can say that with the top off of the monochromator you could visually confirm that the manual up/down scan toggle works. The wavelength indicated on the Compudrive display did not exactly match the odometer reading on the body of the monochromator. Close but not a match. Perhaps you have to calibrate it or perform some other initialization to get the two to sync?
The grating installed looks very good but I do not know the specs. The two mirrors look OK, but they are a bit hazy and look like they could stand to be cleaned. One of the two has a bit of a fingerprint on it (NOT mine!), but it is out near the edge so probably not a big deal even if you can t get it off. I never try to clean primary surface optics, you only make that mistake once. I leave it to you to clean the mirrors if you think they require it.
Please check out my other listings for more interesting lab and optical equipment, including a couple of larger, more contemporary Jobin Yvon Monochromators.. Plus a Gamma Scientific NM-5H monochromator that I hope to list soon. Check back often!
