A solderless breadboard consists of a perforated block of plastic with numerous spring clips under the perforations. The spacing between the clips (lead pitch) is 0.1" or 100 mil (2.54 mm). Integrated circuits (ICs) in dual-in-line(DIPs) can be inserted to straddle the centerline of the block. Interconnecting wires and the leads of discrete components (such as capacitors, resistors, transistors, etc.) can be inserted into the remaining free holes to complete the circuit. Where ICs are not used, discrete components and connecting wires may use any of the holes.

* Phosphor Bronze Strip - 5% A. This is a standard commercial grade extensively used by industry in all tempers but principally in the harder cold rolled tempers. It consists essentially of copper, alloyed with tin (copper 95% - tin 5%) which has been deoxidized with phosphorus. Classified by the Copper and Brass Research Association, now the Copper Development Association, as "Copper Alloy No. 510 (Phosphor Bronze, 5% A)." It has excellent resistance to corrosion and fatigue, wear and chemicals. It possesses good electrical conductivity, excellent toughness, fine grain structure and develops high tensile strength
