The Poulsen Wire Recording kit provides an outstanding technical introduction to the history of magnetic recording. Easy to build and easy to operate this kit requires no soldering or any skill beyond the proper use of a screwdriver; some parts merely snap together. Incredibly and obviously the absolute importance of transit time consistency during both recording and playback is clearly illustrated by placing a short magnetic recording upon the supplied steel wire. Transit time across the wire is determined by how fast the recording/playback head is moved by hand. Erasure is by means of a supplied permanent magnet which is also slid across the steel wire media by hand. In all cases the simple geometric fixture of this kit assures proper and repeatable physical alignments necessary for proper kit operation after assembly. Although the instructions are not written in English the very clear illustrations assure ease of understanding during assembly of this remarkable kit.
