Langshans are a old breed from the Langshan District in China. They are very tall, showy birds with a distinctive "U" shape between the head and tail. They make an excellent dual purpose breed for meat and eggs. Hens will go broody, are good mothers and lay a fair number of very dark brown eggs. They are adaptable to either confinement or free range, slow to mature, cold hardy and active yet very docile.
