The Modem Saver is designed to help avoid damage to the analog modem by testing the current and the polarity of the telephone line.
Simply plug the modem tester in the telephone jack and the light will be either green (for normal current and polarity), yellow (for reversed polarity) and red in the event that there is an over-current. When the red light is on, this is an indicater that the modem may get damaged if plugged into the telephone jack. This tester will help you prevent damaging your analog modem.
