Petro-bond casting foundry sand 25 lbs pre mixed

BCS Jupiter Blend TM is an oil bonded; pre-mix foundry sand made up of fine sharp silica sand, resin and oil. Jupiter Blend TM petro-bond is used for sand casting all types of metals. 25 Pounds of Petrobond sand mix has a volume of approximately 550 cubic inches.
Jupiter Blend TM is an oil bonded sand that replaces water bonded ("green") sands for sand casting. It has advantages over traditional sands in that it doesn't have water added, and therefore doesn't steam like traditional sands. It is safer than green sand because it doesn't generate potentially explosive amounts of steam.
Oil Bonded sand can also produce a finer surface finish than green sand due to its smooth texture and lack of steam generation. It is easier for the novice to use and obtain professional results.
Jupiter Blend TM molds just like water bonded sands. You can use the same tools, patterns and techniques. The superior adhesion of the sand to itself means less problems with loose sand in the impressions. The only difference is that you can't use water to slick up loose sections. But since Petrobond has excellent self-adhesion, you will encounter few problems with crumbling.
The Petrobond oil does burn where it contacts the molten metal. It is good practice to remove the burned sand from your part when shaking out your castings. This burned sand can be scraped off into a bucket and saved for reconditioning with oil when enough has accumulated. Some burned sand in itself isn't a problem, because it can be mixed back into the pile and it will reabsorb oil and work just fine.
In time the oil is depleted by burning off and must be replenished. I use 30W non-detergent motor oil to replenish dried out sand. I usually start with about 1 pint per 100 pounds of sand and mix it in thoroughly. Let it stand for a day or two to diffuse into the sand and resin. Don't add too much to start with because it doesn't take much to do the job, and if you get too much oil in the sand it will become overly sticky. I cover up my pile with plastic sheeting when it's not in use to slow the evaporation of the oils from the mix.
