730 case diesel tractor case-o-matic rebuilt inj. pump
This tractor is weathered and had some rough points, but I would say that it is in good used condition for something this old and not all beat up or rusted out. I would think that it would be a good candidate for a restoration tractor or just something good to use.
The tag reads, Model 731-C. S.N. 8162066. MANUFACTURED IN THE USA J. I. CASE COMPANY RACINE WISCONSIN USA.
I got this tractor from an older gentleman in December of 2009, and he had owned it for the last 25 + years. He used it for light farm work, mowing, baled a little hay. For the last 15 + years he had a 7 snow blower on it and that is all he used it for was to blow out his mile lane a couple time in the winter, he never took the snowblower off. He said that he was told when he bought it that it had M&W sleeves and pistons put in it, and there is an old decal on the front that says M&W Add Power.
The gentleman said that tractor actually just sat the last 2 years and he tried to get it going last fall and it would not start. So he had someone come in and they took off the fuel injector pump and had it rebuild and put it back on and got it running. So he just spent about $1400.00 the end of November 2009 on this tractor.
The tractor seems to run good just a little white smoke when warmed up. You need a little ether starting fluid to start it, but once it has been running it starts right up on its own. It has sat since the middle February almost 3 months and I went out and gave it some ether and cranked it over a little and it started right up. The guys that did the injector pump did not mess with the injectors, they thought that it ran fine so they did not mess with them, Go Figure. I would think that if one got the injectors checked out that it would start without the ether, and might run even better.
The wide front end is in read good shape not all beat-up, no weld on it. It has 6.50-16 front tires and 15.5-38 rear tires. One of the front tires is pretty new and the other is checked a bit but holds air well and had quite a bit of tread left. The rear tires are about 35% tread, the one tire is chewed up a bit on the edges, (he had tire chains on it and they can wear on a tire pretty good.) The other one is not so bad. All of the rims are in good shape not rusted out.
It has good oil pressure, I would say that it has no blow by, the oil gauge works. The AMP and heat gauges seem to work. I think that the fuel gauge might work. The clutch pressure gauge moves but it don t go all the way down when shut off. The other gauges, speedometer and tach. do not seem to work. The dash light and rear combo light work, but the others do not, I think that the light switch is flaky.
It has the old eagle hitch three point system, it is in good shape and it seems to work fine. There is one set of rear hydraulics. The P.T.O. seems to work fine. It has power steering and it works real well, but there is a pretty good leak in the front somewhere. The steering wheel shaft need a bushing in the column.
It has a 8 speed forward 2 reverse transmission with the case o matic torque converter drive, so you get like 16 speeds forward 4 reverse. The caseomatic seems to work fine, you have to grind the gears a little not bad, heard that this is somewhat normal. It would probably help to change the oil and filter in caseomatic drive. The brakes work, but are not very strong, probably need adjusted.
I was planning on using it to bale hay this year with my old John Deere baler but I recently came across a 684 international, so I don t really need this neat old tractor. I have described this as fairly as I could, I don t think that I left anything out. So if you have any questions please ask. Please look at the pictures.
